Langley Library's Aug. 30 public meeting garnered more than 80 community members eager to participate in shaping the future library by offering their input and ideas. The conceptual designs for the Langley Library Remodel Project were developed through continuing community engagement including an online survey, comments from customers in the library, and more than 25 conversations with Langley groups.
Sno-Isle Libraries received a $700,000 grant in 2021 through the Library Capital Improvement Program. Sno-Isle Libraries will provide matching funds to remodel and update the Langley Library with support from the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation.
The remodel, which will be completed in 2023, will prioritize energy efficiency and universal accessibility in a way that preserves and enhances the historic nature of the building. The improved access and welcoming, well-lit spaces will allow more of the community’s residents to access the library’s services.
Drawing on the library’s rich history as a community venue, the concepts include plentiful gathering space to support recreational and educational needs. The surrounding natural landscape is incorporated throughout the designs, with color and textures inspired by Saratoga Passage and greater Puget Sound. Through this process, the library building will be enhanced to become even more of a jewel in historic downtown Langley, and an inclusive, inspiring space for all.
Sno-Isle Libraries continues to encourage community input into the design process to create inspiring library spaces which are welcoming, inclusive, and easy to access.
