Sno-Isle Libraries shared an update on the Langley Library project with the City of Langley’s Design Review Board on Nov. 15, 2022. Based on input from the Board as well as the Historic Preservation Commission, Sno-Isle Libraries will be working to incorporate feedback into the next design iteration.
The City’s Design Review Board meeting served as a forum to discuss how the revitalization project can retain the small-town character of Langley. The design will be further refined to align with the City and community’s goals before going through the City’s formal approval process.
The process to inform the upcoming Langley Library revitalization, which will be completed in 2023, has included significant community involvement. All current design concepts have been a direct reflection of broad and diverse community input.
In 2021, Sno-Isle Libraries was awarded a $700,000 Washington State Library Capital Improvement Grant to improve accessibility and increase energy efficiency while preserving the historic nature of the Langley Library by June 30, 2023. Sno-Isle Libraries is committed to providing the full required matching funding as well as additional funding needed to take full advantage of this rare and unique opportunity to strengthen the Langley Library building.
Sno-Isle Libraries anticipates the total project cost will be more than $2 million, of which more than $1 million will go toward repairs and updates to the building infrastructure.
