Get your library cards ready, it is time to immerse yourself into a world of joy and discovery as our beloved Langley Library opens its doors on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m.
“The Langley Library remodel is a significant investment in our community and a commitment to lifelong learning and early literacy. We invite you to be a part of our next chapter, your stories bring the library to life,” said Sno-Isle Libraries Executive Director Eric Howard. “We appreciate Mayor Horstman, City Council, and City staff for their collaboration on this complex project."
The Langley Library as envisioned by our community will be a two-story space that brings our community together, while preserving the historic nature of the building. Our community will enjoy new reading nooks, have an additional 1,500 square feet to explore, discover new elements in the interactive children’s area, and gather in a new reservable community meeting space.
“I didn’t fully appreciate the value of a library until I moved to Langley, where our library is more than just a place for information—it's a hub of warmth, opportunity, and connection. I’m excited for its re-opening and proud of the collaboration between Sno-Isle Libraries, residents, and the City of Langley in creating a space that honors our library’s history while meeting the evolving needs of our community,” said Langley Mayor Kennedy Horstman.
Sno-Isle Libraries contracted with Valdez Construction, Inc, local Whidbey contractor, to complete this 12 month project. The Langley Library has new solar panels to reduce the library’s carbon footprint and is on track to be LEED Silver Certified (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design). The total project cost is around $4 million with contributions from Sno-Isle Libraries, two state grants, the Friends of the Langley Library, and Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation. Sno-Isle Libraries is grateful to the lawmakers in the 10th Legislative District to help fund the historic Langley Library remodel.
Thank you to the Friends of the Langley Library for their generous support of the children’s area. The new interactive features enhance Langley Library’s focus on early learning, creating a library space that is a destination for children and their families.
Sno-Isle Libraries has invested in Langley to create an inspiring, welcoming space for our community to enjoy for the next 100 years.
