Sno-Isle Libraries invites customers to come in and browse shelves for books and DVDs, enjoy the new children’s area with interactive play elements, and plug in to public Wi-Fi to access online services.

Sno-Isle Libraries and the City of Lake Stevens partnered on the effort this summer to turn the city building into a temporary library to serve the community and the growing number of families who call Lake Stevens home.

Sno-Isle Libraries and city officials consider the Grade Road library to be temporary as they continue to study the feasibility of building a new civic center campus that could include new city offices and a library on the west side of Lake Stevens.

Compared to the former library on Main Street, the new space is cool, too, thanks to central air conditioning. Past Lake Stevens Library closures due to extreme summer heat should become a distant memory.

“With the library’s focus to equitably connect everyone to their library, we are happy to open this temporary library location before the start of the school year in Lake Stevens,” Sno-Isle Libraries Executive Director Lois Langer Thompson said. “This location will offer the community access to services that were not available at the Lundeen Park pop-up location this summer.”

In the summer transition between library buildings, the city provided space at Lundeen Park where Lake Stevens Library staff worked as a “pop-up” library to deliver holds and issue new library cards to customers.

“The Lake Stevens staff have been incredibly dedicated and resilient,” said Sno-Isle Libraries District Manager Lindsay Hanson. “They have embraced the opportunity to serve the community in innovative ways and have been instrumental in reaching new customers who may not have visited the library previously.”
