Nothing lasts forever, and the 41-year-old roof at the Arlington Library is proof.
The work to replace the brown asphalt roof shingles with a blue metal roof is scheduled to start on March 14. This roof replacement project is the starting point for upgrades to make the library building a welcoming and inspiring space for customers to enjoy.
“The result will be worth it, although there may be some temporary inconveniences due to construction,” said Library Manager Monica Jackson.
The Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation is supporting the replacement roof project.
Construction is expected to last about five weeks. The work will include the addition of skylights on the north side of the building, plus replacement of the gutters and downspouts, and drainage improvements.
“The current roof has stood up for many years, but every roof has a replacement cycle and we’re at that point now,” said Sno-Isle Libraries Facilities Manager Rose Hong.
In addition to visiting the library, customers can use contact-free services including Laptops to Go and remote printing, or visit other libraries during this time. Arlington Library customers will receive a reminder email in advance of construction.
