Educator Newsletter – June 2024

Welcome to the Sno-Isle Libraries Educator Newsletter for June 2024. In this issue, you will find information about Summer Reading, summer break resources, and more. Thank you for teaching and caring for students this school year. We hope you have a great summer!

Summer Reading Toolkit

Summer Reading at Sno-Isle Libraries starts June 1. This year’s theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library! All reading counts, including being read to and listening to an audiobook. Kids and teens who read for 10 hours will get a free book and a sticker.

To help spread the word to students and families, use these PowerPoint presentations for kids or teens. The presentation is also available in Spanish.

You can also share this digital bookmark with a mini reading log via email (English | Spanish) or request printed copies from your local library.

Want to schedule a time for library staff to visit your school to talk about Summer Reading? Use the School Support Form to connect with staff.

Choose Your Own Summer Adventure

What do you want to do this summer?

Person writing in a journal while sitting at a table with plane tickets and a world map, Mango Languages

  • Pack a bag and see the world? Whether you want to climb to Machu Picchu, wander the Great Wall, or search for the best pastry in Paris, learn what to ask with Mango Languages. Access courses in more than 70 world languages free with your library card.
  • Create a masterpiece or at least deplete your yarn supply? Try Creativebug! Enjoy instructional videos designed for artists and makers of all levels. Topics include drawing, painting, sewing, baking, and more, with downloadable patterns, templates, and recipes.
  • Level up your skills? LinkedIn Learning is a great way to keep up with new technologies and teaching techniques. Search the K-12 educators section for courses on crafting a syllabus, teaching complex topics, visual thinking, gamification, using technology for student success, and more.
  • Or simply rest and relax? Browse staff-recommended booklists for a new read or stream movies and shows.

While the School Library is Closed

School libraries may be closed for the summer, but Sno-Isle is still open to your students, in-person and online!

Using their Sno-Isle library card or Student Accounts, students can browse thousands of eBooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines on OverDrive Kids or OverDrive Teens. Featured lists are updated regularly by library staff and many titles are available with no wait!

Kids and teens can enjoy digital comic books and graphic novels on Hoopla, including popular series like "Dog Man" and "Wings of Fire." And teens will enjoy popular fiction and nonfiction eBooks with our CloudLibrary Express Collection. Families and kids can read along with interactive picture books in English and Spanish on Scholastic's BookFlix, which pairs fiction and nonfiction titles on different topics.

To get started, students can use their Student Account or sign up for a library card at any Sno-Isle location and choose one of our fun card designs.
