One of our customers told us how, one year when money was really tight, she wasn't going to be able to afford much for Christmas for her elementary age son who was a voracious reader at a very advanced level. She was also concerned about getting books with appropriate themes. With the help of staff at the Lynnwood Library she was able to bring home a basket full of recently published books at his reading level, without grown-up themes, which she was able to present to him for Christmas. He loved it and remembers it well. He did get some things from Grandma and Grandpa for Christmas, too, but she said, "the library saved me that year."
