Managing items that you have checked out
Renewing Physical Materials -- Books, DVDs, CDs, etc.
Automatic renewal is enabled for everyone's account. Three days prior to your item due date, it will be automatically renewed for you as long as there is no one else waiting for it and your account is clear. This automatic renewal can occur up to 5 times as long as each renewal time, no one else is waiting. After the 5th time, you will need to return the item.
Each renewal is the same as the initial loan period. If there is a request for the item by another customer, the 'Renewals Left' count will change to 0, and the renewal check box will not be available. If all outstanding requests for the title have been filled, the display will change back to allow the automatic renewal process to work. Your account will then display the correct number of renewals that you have.
If at any time, you prefer not to wait for the automatic renewal process to occur, you may manually renew your items. Manual renewal will be the same as the initial loan period from the date you renew.
You will receive an almost overdue/auto renew email three days prior to the due date to let you know whether your items were automatically renewed.
- Login to your account.
- Click on 'Items Out'.
- This screen shows a list of all the items you currently have checked out. If an item can be renewed, it will have an empty box to the left of the title.
Note: The items on this list should be listed according to due date. Items with the nearest due date will be listed at the top.
- To manually renew, click in the box next to each item you want to renew. This will add a check to the box.
- Go to the bottom of the list and click on the Renew Selected Items button. Alternatively, leave all the boxes unchecked and simply click on the Renew All Items button to renew all the items listed.
- The next screen will give you a summary of the results of your renewals. Some items will not renew if there are other customers requesting it or if you have already renewed it 5 times.
Renewing Electronic Media Materials -- eBooks, eAudioBooks, eMusic, eVideo, etc.
Electronic media materials within our OverDrive page may be renewed. The option to renew a title becomes available three days before the title is set to expire and appears next to the title on your Bookshelf when you log into your OverDrive account.
Electronic Media materials from our other vendors cannot be renewed. However, you may request them again and check them out if available.
